The Identity Shift
You know, not every career transition is about changing jobs. Sometimes it's the evolution of you! You within your role, as a human, or even within your company.
When life demands something different of us, we face a choice: cling to who we were or embrace who we're becoming.
In my coaching practice, I work with professionals wrestling with this because they're fighting the "death" of their old professional self instead of celebrating the birth of new possibilities.
What's dying in your career right now?
Outdated skills that once defined you?
Roles that no longer fit your values?
Comfort zones that limit your growth?
BUT... What's being born?
Fresh perspectives on leadership
New opportunities you couldn't see before
Authentic parts of yourself ready to shine
The rumbling is uncomfortable. But it's where real career growth happens.
Here are three practical steps I've used in my career (and life):
1. Notice the End – Sit with what's quietly fading: skills, roles, or ways of showing up that no longer fit. Don't rush; name it with clarity.
2. Sense the Beginning – Feel the stirrings of what wants to emerge: perspectives, possibilities, and authentic aspects ready for expression.
3. Align Your Step – Choose one small, deliberate action that honors this new self/learning, not as a fix, but as a signal that you're moving toward who you're becoming.
What identity shift is your career asking of you right now?
